Ground floor — The speakeasy

Walk through the doors of this speakeasy and you embark on a space expedition through the universe of artist Lucie Picandet. Her work Vrais Paradis (Real-life Paradises), has been created directly onto the walls of the bar; it offers a view of the horizon of an imagined galaxy made up of tiny planets that are each a small piece of the natural world: a paradise devoid of humanity. Each domain is linked by a line extending to infinity, where the eye can get lost in a vision of the starry sky. The bar is like a space capsule from which visitors can look out of the windows. Lucie Picandet’s project was selected following a national call-out for ideas for a work of art that would be created in situ and would remain in place for at least a year.
